What follows is a previously top secret recipe for the sweetest, diabetes inducing Scottish delicacy called ‘Tablet’. It’s my Granma Broons own recipe and accounts for the fact I’m a toothless, fat git. BEWARE!
Use this at your own risk: if you survive after following this recipe then please post to tell me how you got on!
Ingredients
2 lbs of granulated sugar (about 1 kg)
1 tin of condensed milk (about 397 g)
4 ounces butter (about 113 g)
1 cup of milk (about 250 ml)
Method
- Lightly butter a baking tray in advance – you’re not going to have time to do it while preparing the mixture!
- Put all the ingredients into a heavy pan and apply a low heat, stirring constantly until everything melts and mixes
- Avoid applying too much heat regardless of your impatience! Once bubbles start to form on the outside of the mixture, set a timer for 12 to 15 minutes and stir CONSTANTLY. It will stick to the bottom of the pan if you don’t keep stirring!
- Take the mixture off the heat and beat with a wooden spoon for a minute or so, until the mixture is velvet smooth
- Pour the mixture into the baking tray and leave to set slightly
- Mark lightly in squares and put into the fridge to set hard
- After it’s set, cut into squares and consume vigorously
- Book an appointment with the dentist and a personal trainer
Secrets to success are:
- Keep the heat low or you’ll burn the mixture
- Stir constantly or the mixture will stick to the pan
- Don’t over cook, or the result will be brittle and crumbly
- Don’t under cook, or the result will be gooey and won’t set
Enjoy!
Christmas is here! WOO HOO! Wishing everyone a very, very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year!
Who knows what 2010 holds, but we’re really looking forward to it. Hope you all are too and our love and best wishes go with you into the New Year.
Lots of love, Oli and Debbie xxx
As promised, I’ve made available a selection of pictures and movies from the wedding. Big thanks to Toby Butler for the awesome pictures that he posted up on Facebook – you can access them here or if you don’t have a Facebook account, get them here. We also had some professional snaps done by Mike and Ross from catchlight. They are amazing photos and available to buy, if you’re interested! You can get to them here – there are instructions for ordering any copies of snaps you like at the end of the slideshow. Finally, I’ve done a couple of little movies of the day, which are available on YouTube. You can see those here. Hope you enjoy them, though feel free to drop me a line with any comments!
Neither of us can quite believe it, but we’re back from honeymoon and the preparation, the ceremony, the reception and the honeymoon are all just distant memories. We want to thank everyone who came to share our special day together – it was unforgettable (especially Johns momentous speech – ‘Lump Sucker’ is now a copyrighted term). Thank you cards will be winging there way out to you all shortly. We have LOADS of pictures and video to share with you, and we’ll be gathering everything together in one place very shortly. I’ll keep you posted.
Thank you again from Iain Ollerenshaw and Debbie Anne Bramwell Ollerenshaw!!!
Well, it’s only a week to go until the big day! I can’t believe that it’s come around so quick: it seems like only yesterday that I proposed and Debbie, in a fit of madness, accepted!
Everything is now arranged and we’re just counting down the days now; we’re both very excited indeed! It’s almost a full house and we’re pleased and grateful that everyone is going to make it out to help us celebrate. Those that can’t be there will be sorely missed.
Anyhoo, expect the next update after the big day!

So the invites are sent! WOOO HOOO! Thanks to Debbie’s superior organisational skills, everything is on track for October. The church, venue and cars are booked. Songs and hyms have been selected. Rings are bought, outfits chosen, food and booze tasted.
Go go go!
It’s been ages since I posted anything, so I thought that an update was in order!
Our wedding plans are going swimmingly, with everything pretty much in the bag. We’re picking out wedding rings this week and that just about completes our preparations – only 5 months to go! I’ve created a new page, with details of the big day for attendees: details of the venue and accommodation, bits and pieces like that. You’ll also see a countdown timer to the big day – more for my benefit than anything else, really!
More info nearer the time!

I am very, very excited to announce that:
Debbie and I are engaged to be married!
In a stereotypical, romantic scene (I had just finished vacuuming leaves from the patio, Debbie had put out the compost and was working on a spreadsheet in the office), I cunningly asked the question when her guard was down and she said yes! Who’d have thunk?! We’re very excited about it and the ball is rolling: a date is set (October 24th) as is a location for the ceremony (Busbridge Church) and the venue for afterwards (Barnett Hill, near Guildford). Engagement ring shopping this coming weekend will seal the deal, so to speak!
Look out for invitations in the post shortly and please have a drink and a toast to the future, on our behalf!

Debs and I have spent another fantastic long weekend in Zal Am See, in Austria. We stayed at the fantastic Hotel Max and absolutely loved it. Beautiful resort and the snow and atmosphere was top notch. Feels ever so Christmassy now! Photos are here, if you’re interested.
