Granny Broon's Tablet Recipe!

What follows is a previously top secret recipe for the sweetest, diabetes inducing Scottish delicacy called ‘Tablet’. It’s my Granma Broons own recipe and accounts for the fact I’m a toothless, fat git. BEWARE!

Use this at your own risk: if you survive after following this recipe then please post to tell me how you got on!

Ingredients

2 lbs of granulated sugar (about 1 kg)
1 tin of condensed milk (about 397 g)
4 ounces butter (about 113 g)
1 cup of milk (about 250 ml)

Method

  1. Lightly butter a baking tray in advance – you’re not going to have time to do it while preparing the mixture!
  2. Put all the ingredients into a heavy pan and apply a low heat, stirring constantly until everything melts and mixes
  3. Avoid applying too much heat regardless of your impatience! Once bubbles start to form on the outside of the mixture, set a timer for 12 to 15 minutes and stir CONSTANTLY. It will stick to the bottom of the pan if you don’t keep stirring!
  4. Take the mixture off the heat and beat with a wooden spoon for a minute or so, until the mixture is velvet smooth
  5. Pour the mixture into the baking tray and leave to set slightly
  6. Mark lightly in squares and put into the fridge to set hard
  7. After it’s set, cut into squares and consume vigorously
  8. Book an appointment with the dentist and a personal trainer

Secrets to success are:

  1. Keep the heat low or you’ll burn the mixture
  2. Stir constantly or the mixture will stick to the pan
  3. Don’t over cook, or the result will be brittle and crumbly
  4. Don’t under cook, or the result will be gooey and won’t set
